2005 Autumn in Kansai - Osaka

The Osaka Aquarium, also known as Kaiyukan, is probably Japan's best aquarium. It introduces various forms of life inhabiting the Pacific Rim in a well organized and impressive way.

At the main entrance of the castle I have a chance to take a close look at this huge flower tree. Believe it or not when I first see it I thought that it comprised of many small trees. But actually it is the only one tree, one stem!!!! Very amazing for me.

Shrine visitors write their wishes on these wooden plates and then leave them at the shrine in the hope that their wishes come true. Most people wish for good health, success in business, passing entrance exams, love or wealth.

Crane
It is said that 1000 cranes make a wish come true. The folded crane is also a symbol for peace.

It is famous for the countless torii gates, offerings by worshippers, that cover the hiking trails of Inarisan, the wooded mountain behind the shrine's main buildings. One of a scene in the film, Memories of a Geisha, was taken from this Shrine.

Then we visit Tofukuji Temple, one of Japan's most spectacular (and crowded) spots for autumn leaf viewing.

Tofukuji is a Zen temple, which was constructed in 1236 with the aim of building a temple in the style of Todaiji and Kofukuji, the two great temples of Nara. Note that the name "Tofukuji" is a combination of the names of the two model temples.
