Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque
Sultan Haji Omar All Saifuddien is regarded as the architect of modern Brunei. It was he who steered the nation safely through the turbulent years after WWII, establishing the foundationfor the nation's independence and sovereignty. The mosque, completed in 1958, is built of Italian marble, gold mosaic and English stained glass.
The capital is named after Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien, his Majesty's late fater who in 1967 abdicated in favour of his son and assumed the title "Seri Begawan".
