Incredible India - Rajasthan Route : Jaislamer Day 2

In the morning I choose to visit the Jain Temple, while some of the gang prefer to walk around in the fort.

These are a group of Jain temples dating back 12th and 15th centuries and are dedicated to various Jain Tirthankars (Hermits). On the walls of the temples, you can find animal & human figures, carved in famous Dilwara style.

These temples are built in the Dilwara style that is famous all over the world for its architecture. The style got its name from the famous 'Dilwara Temples' situated on Mount Abu, a famous Hill station and pilgrimage destination in Rajasthan. The Jain temples in the Jaisalmer Fort are dedicated to Rikhabdevji and Shambhavdev Ji, the famous Jain hermits known as 'Tirthankars'. Like all other structures in Jaisalmer, these temples are craved of yellow sandstones. The beautifully carves decorations on the wall will give you divine peace. The Astapadhi Temples that are situated in the same complex are a must visit too.

Then the hostel owner offers us a free tour starting at the Rajmahal.

The Jaisalmer Palace was renowned as Rajmahal and was the royal palace in Jaisalmer where the royal family members of the rulers of Jaisalmer were living. The Raj Mahal, with all pride of a royal palace constructed around 1500 AD, was built with marvelous beauty by the most famous architectures and craftsmen during the Royal period.

Rajmahal, one of the oldest palaces in Rajasthan, is an imposing seven-storied palace. This palace is highly popular for the lattice work. It is placed inside the breathtaking Jaisalmer fort.

Genesha pictures are painted on houses' wall.

Ganesha is one of the deities best-known and most widely worshipped in the Hindu Pantheon. Devotion to Ganesha is widely diffused and extends to Jains, Buddhists, and beyond India. Although he is known by many other attributes, Ganesha's elephant head makes him easy to identify. Ganesha is widely revered as the Remover of Obstacles and more generally as Lord of Beginnings and Lord of Obstacles, patron of arts and sciences, and the deva of intellect and wisdom. He is honoured at the beginning of rituals and ceremonies and invoked as Patron of Letters during writing sessions

Many beautiful havelis which were built by wealthy merchants of Jaisalmer are yet another interesting aspect of the desert city. So we decide to visit the Patwon-Ki-Haveli outside the fort by taking the auto rickshaws.

A group of apartments, this is one of the largest and most elaborate of Havelis in Jaisalmer and stands in a narrow lane. It is five storeys high and is extensively carved. A part of this beautiful building is owned by the Department of Archaeology and Museum. There are remnants of some paintings on the walls inside as well as some mirror work. This has been the star attraction of Jaisalmer.

Does he have the longest beard???

Though, I still have my shopping spree in Jaisalmer, but I forget to buy this "special magic bed sheet" for my friends since it advertises that "no viagra need".

Then we have lunched before going out to the sand dunes.

Some 45 kms towards the west of the Jaisalmer city are located the barren yet beautiful shifting sand dunes adjoining the village Sam.
