Spring USA Trip - Day5

Our first place for today is at Zion National Park, where a lot of people come to trek. Though one should check the weather before starting the journey since warning signs are posted at the park website.
“………All narrow canyons are potentially hazardous. Flash floods, cold water, and strong currents present real dangers that can be life-threatening. Your safety depends on your own good judgement, adequate preparation, and constant attention……”

For us we enjoy the view by driving.

Red Canyon before entering Bryce Canyon.

78 miles from Zion is Bryce Canyon National Park which many hoodoos to see. (A hoodoo is a pinnacle, spire or odd-shaped rock left standing by the forces of erosion.) It takes a minimum of 3 hours to drive to the 13 viewpoints along the park's 38-mile (round-trip) scenic drive. It looks like แพะเมืองผี (Phae-muang-pee) at Phare province, but in a very very larger scale. We take lots of pictures until sunset and have to drive to find an accommodation since we haven’t booked any for tonight.

Spring USA Trip - Day4

Another day at Grand Canyon, but at the South Rim. The average distance across the North Rim and South Rim canyon “as the condor flies” is ten miles (16 km). However, traveling requires a five-hour drive of 215 miles (345 km). Therefore, we do not have enough time to visit the North Rim.

At the Desert Tower Point.
“…..Building a structure that provides the widest possible view of the Grand Canyon yet harmonizes with its setting was architect Mary Colter's goal when the Santa Fe Railroad hired her in 1930 to design a gift shop and rest area at Desert View Point. The Watchtower opened in May of 1933. ….”

We then drive to Page to visit the Antelope Canyon. It is one of my wish list since I saw some pictures from my friend two years ago. It is a fascinating place. We visit only the Upper Antelope Canyon by buying a tour cost around USD 26 per person. Since it is the last tour of the day, there is no other tourist in our group except our guide’s family. So we all enjoy the tour.

http://www.navajonationparks.org/htm/antelopecanyon.htm
Excerpt from the website:
Gently carved from the Navajo sandstone over the course of countless millenniums, the slot canyons are majestic and narrow passages, just enough space for a small group to walk the sandy floor - and for the occasional shafts of sunlight to shine down from above.
The Navajo name for Upper Antelope Canyon is Tse' bighanilini, which means "the place where water runs through rocks." Upper Antelope is at about 4,000 feet elevation and the canyon walls rise 120 feet above the streambed.
Though dry most of the year, Antelope Canyon runs, and sometimes floods, with water after rains. It is the water, slowly wearing away the sandstone grain by grain, that has formed the beautiful and graceful curves in the rock. Wind has also played a role in sculpting this fantastic canyon.

With the sun still high in the sky, we rush back to visit another interesting place, the Navajo Bridge.

“….Those traveling across the country on Highway 89A between Bitter Springs and Jacob Lake AZ arrive at two bridges similar in appearance spanning the Colorado River. These two bridges, one historic and one new, represent one of only seven land crossings of the Colorado River for 750 miles (1207 km)…..”

End the day at the Horseshoe Bend

“…..the Colorado River makes a wide sweep around a sandstone escarpment. Long ago, as the river meandered southward, it always chose the most downward slope. This downward journey did not always occur in a straight line, and sometimes the river made wide circles around higher spines of rock. Here at Horseshoe Bend, the Colorado River did just that, and as the river cut down through the layers of sandstone, it created a horseshoe-shaped bend in the canyon…..”

Spring USA Trip - Day3

First stop is at Hoover Dam before we visit the Hualapai Indian Reservation at the West-Rim Grand Canyon National Park.

It would be best traveling by a four-wheel car since the dirt road is so rough and rugged with the desert all around us, no facilities at all.

Along the road to the Reservation.

View from the West – Rim Grand Canyon. (no camera on the glass walkway)
The West-rim part is now a tourist spot for the new skywalk opened last month. So there is not many website providing enough information on this new place. We misunderstood that we could buy only the skywalk pass which was USD 25 per person. However, it turned out that we needed to buy a tour and then a walkway was an optional; total price for the cheapest tour was around USD 75 per person. A tour is for 2 places: Indian village and a Ranch including lunch and a shuttle bus.
“….to walk along a curved bridge with a glass-bottom walkway projecting 70 feet out over a section of the canyon with near vertical walls, and so look straight down to the Colorado River, nearly 4,000 feet below….”

The Village consists of dwellings depicting not only the Hualapai Tribe, but three other Arizona Tribes and tipis that represent many Plains Indian Tribes. The dwellings have been constructed authentically by representatives of each Nation.

Spring USA Trip - Day2

A Strip tour begins at the Royal White Tiger at The Mirage. Then walking along the canals in little Venice at The Venetian.

Window shopping and watch the Atlantis/Festival Fountain shows at The Forum Shops at Caesars.

But I like The Bellagio Conservatory & Botantical Gardens most. Very beautiful.

The last one before we pick up Eak, another team mate, at the airport is at the Luxor.

We plan to have a big dinner buffet before entering the wilderness, at Harrah we ask to see the food stations before paying a ticket, to make sure that King crab together with many other seafood are served. Then the walking tour resumes to watch the Musical Fountain show at the Bellagio.

Spring USA Trip - Day1

Red Rock Canyon

Since I can’t persuade (and manipulate) Oh, my brother, to visit Morocco with me, a solution satisfied both of us is U.S.A. Mid-west is agreeable, but my interest is at northern Arizona - Antelope Canyon, and Utah – Bryce Canyon, while Oh’s main interest is at Wyoming – Yellowstone National Park. With a very limit preparation time, we have 2 more friends to join the trip but with different flights.

Oh and I arrived at Las Vegas around 1 a.m. this morning. Later, we decide to visit Red Rock Canyon which is about 19 miles of downtown Las Vegas and pick up, one of our team mates, Koh, in the evening. Enjoy the volcano eruption at The Mirage and the Pirate shows at the Treasure Island. We walk until 3.a.m., so tired that I am afraid that we don’t have energy left to walk in those national parks as planned. But Vegas is a very lively place.

New Puppies

Today I went to Trad Province to pick up two new puppies. We haven't had new puppies in our house for such a long time, 16 years. Only two of five are left today and the ferocius one, Eim, passed away two months ago. Eim attacked all animals who were in her vision and bited anyone who didn't live in my house if we didn't lock her in: my uncle, an icecream seller, and a delivery boy.

Coco is a one-month old male.

Milo is a three-month old female.
Both of them are now very naughty that my mom loses some weight taking care of them.

Chaopraya River in the evening.

Delicious food at Thai-Heng restaurant at Buk-ka-lo district.

Visit Nong Pat’s Beagles - Mindy and her puppies.

In order to strictly follow the doctor’s advice,, we all have only one glass of wine per day. One glass contains about 2,700 cc approximately 3 and a half bottle. 
