Incredible India - Rajasthan Route : Jaisalmer Day 1

Today we leave Pushkar very early in the morning since there is a long drive waiting for us.

Jaisalmer - the Golden City

Jaisalmer is named after its founder Rao Jaisal Yadav king. "Jaisalmer" means "the Hill Fort of Jaisal". Jaisalmer is sometimes called the "Golden City of India" because the yellow sand gives a yellowish-golden tinge to the city and its surrounding area. The town stands on a ridge of sandstone, crowned by a fort, which contains the palace and several ornate Jain temples. Many of the houses and temples are finely sculptured.

As our hostel is situated in the city fort, the driver has to drop us off at the gate where the owner of the hostel comes out to pick us. We take a "Tuk - Tuk" to get in.

Narrow walkway in the fort but with a lot of shops.

The golden city view from the fort.

We then go out to take a sunset view of the fort from the hill near the city.
